I'd even be up for making up some example lists of possible forces in the mean time (3Cdo Bde 1982 is probably out there in a list somewhere). Never say never though - perhaps someone will do a map that is closer to the wide open spaces of the falklands, and some clever hack for trenches, and a toolkit for a campaign. ![]() Most battles were assaults against dug in infantry, and WGRD doesn't really have a mechanism for trenches and fortifications. There's no weather or night option in WGRD. Making playable maps where most factions have some reasonable chance, and which look vaguely geographically plausible, is non-trivial.Įvery single battle was a night battle - the UK forces had the initiative, and since WW2 the UK has always fought at night when it had a choice. ![]() And I have a suspicion that game balance would be hard to sustain in such very different maps.Īs I understand it, creating a map for WGRD is a pretty big undertaking. However all the maps have too much cover. ![]() Maybe, at a push, Straigh to the point small. WHile Goose Green did have a few buildings, it also had wide open airstrip etc and it is hard to see a map that would approximate it. THere are no maps that nicely match any terrain in the Falklands, with wide open marches and low mountains, huge site lines, and almost no roads, buildings or tree cover. (Come to think of it, they are a weird ommision from the game generally).Ī fully worked up campaign would be hard, for the following reasons: Possibly fixed oerlikons would be hard to proxy, but there's nothing else I think is missing. I think pretty much every unit on both sides is available in the blue forces list to some extent. Still, some really epic matches have been had on it since the beta.įor 4v4 just use your imagination with the 3v3 list and throw floods in there for that big 2v2 or 3v3 mid battle and then play a round or two of korea rocks to make yourself hate the game once you really know whats going on.įor 2v2 paddy and plunjing, nuclear, and jungle law are solid. If you want to play Argentina vs GB in wargame you can in skirmish and multiplayer (with a bit of imagination) and you can always do a hand scripted 'campaign'. Special mention, I've had great games on hop & glory but the height mapping and roads make it an imbalanced piece of shit. Once in a blue moon Back to Back to Inchon and Nuclear winter (need the lobby mod from the main forum to make the starting points correct) are fun. However, yes the pool of more competitive maps was bigger but only because there may be 2 or 3 decent maps if lucky for each player count in RD.įor 3v3 paddy, bloody ridge, jungle law, and gunboat are playable for competitive stuff but they all have some obvious flaws which is why we don't see much in the way of tournaments for RD.
